Jazz in the Garden Welcomes Summer
On June 23rd, the first Sunday of summer, the Wrightwood Classical Concert Series (WCCS) presented “Jazz in the Garden.” A trio of young musicians played familiar jazz standards during the concert, held in Wrightwood at a private residence.
Vocalist, Lia Booth, only in her twenties, has the voice of a mature jazz singer and a great sense of humor on stage. Her daring yet effortless musical style is rooted deeply in the past but with a contemporary sensibility that breathes new life into classic jazz standards.
Dylann Asa, a teacher for Keyboard Art School of Music, performed rhythmically and soulfully on stand up bass. The arranger and composer living in Wrightwood had the privilege of studying with bassist Marshall Hawkins, who performed for WCCS in Wrightwood in 2016 and 2017.
The fingers of Danny Gutierrez, pianist, slipped and glided along the keys drawing notes from the keyboard that sang with the understated sounds of jazz.
The concert was held in a garden and, thanks to the mild weather, created the perfect ambiance on a summer evening. Guests were treated to desserts created by Chef Chris Durbin and florals created by Brierrose Design.

Meet & Greet and Art Show

Immediately following the membership meeting, we’ll have our quarterly Meet & Greet hosted by Brier Rose Design and Zach Budd Photography. This art show will consist primarily of photographs taken and edited by Zachariah Budd. Half of the photos presented in this show are portrait style photographs, while the other half will consist of landscape shots. The artwork will be presented using prints and suspending them, and LED lighting will be used to present the photos, in unison with hues that the photos display, that goes to correspond with the photos in a manner that helps the audience appreciate and experience the moment captured within each photo.
Pine Needles Quilt Guild Meeting

WWPOA Ice Cream Social

The WWPOA (Property owners/renters org.) is hosting the Village Annual Ice Cream Social at the community building and the WAC will be there. The event is free and welcome for ALL Wrightwood villagers. The purpose of the event is to connect all villagers with their neighbors and our village. All community service clubs, social groups, businesses, and organizations are invited to table or booth space to display their information or materials with or without a host. 2019 Wrightwood Literary Festival
Registration is now open for the 5th annual Wrightwood Literary Festival, held September 28th and 29th at Camp Mariastella (at the top of Acorn Drive). Guest faculty this year include poets Kim Dower, Raquel Vasquez Gilliland and Pavana Reddy, and memoirist Antonia Crane. The keynote speaker will be Janet Fitch, international bestselling novelist and author of White Oleander, which became a major motion picture. Join them all on Saturday for a series of writing workshops and the annual Wrightwood Poetry Slam. Sunday is free and features readings, book signings, and the winners of the annual young poets competition.
