What Is a Poetry Slam?

For years, locals have been stopping me at the farmer’s market and the post office to ask when we’d have another poetry slam. They were always part of the Wrightwood Literary Festival, which ran from 2016-19, and word of mouth reviews were so enthusiastic that no one wants to miss the next one.

Every year, the Wrightwood offers a unique publishing opportunity for poets around the world. Whole Life Soaps hosts an annual Soap Haiku contest, pressing one winning haiku on a custom line of all-natural handmade soaps. The contest is judged by Bill McConnell, the store’s owner himself.
